Still, in my experience, if you want to get the best possible price on a beer in Pa., and if you don't mind having to buy a case of it, almost always the best price you'll see is going to be at the distributor's store. That being said, prices at WF's and Wegman's usually are pretty good (in my experience, usually very close to what you'd pay at the distributor's retail store - assuming they have one), and as you indicated, there are other incentive to shop there as well. This being Pa., and as we're talking about the sale of alcohol, things are never quite as simple as they might appear on their face. Even in those cases where the distributor does offer a wholesale, discount price, I know when I bought my two 6 packs of hopslam last year at the Wegmans in Harrisburg, the price was roughly a buck or two higher there then what I would have paid at Westy's, had I bought it by the case there. So of course beers sold by those distributors will be signficantly cheaper at the distributor (assuming they have a retail license not every distributor does), as opposed to a bottle shop or grocery store selling the same beer. It's almost that time of year again for the annual bashing of Shangy's (which I'm not going to start at this point), but suffice it to say that not every distributor offers a wholesale discount price to beer bars and bottle shop/retail outlets. A wholesaler is a person or business entity that makes or purchases items to resell them to a retailer. Those who only sell to retailers can apply for a Wholesaler's Certificate. Those who make taxable sales to the ultimate consumer are required to have a Sales Tax License. Complete part 1 to apply for a Sales and Use Tax License and/or a Public Transportation Assistance Tax License which will authorize the business entity to: Collect State and Local Sales Tax on taxable sales made within PA. You might think that's the case, but in my experience, it depends on the store and the distributor. Pennsylvania issues both Sales Tax Licenses and Wholesaler's Certificates. Part 1 Sales, Use and Hotel Occupancy Tax, Public Transportation Assistance Tax or Vehicle Rental Tax. I can buy most beer for less or the same and by pass the old cases at the same time and buy what I want by a sixer or single." "Since the tax is already included in the WF price I no longer see a reason to go to a distributor.
